UK Braces for Fourth Heatwave: Temperatures to Soar Into Mid-30s Next Week

9 August 2025 – UK: Britain is preparing for its fourth heatwave of the summer, with forecasters warning of a spike in temperatures next week, particularly across southern, central, and eastern England.

Yellow Heat-Health Alert Issued

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a yellow heat-health alert from Monday 11 August to Wednesday 13 August for London, the South East, East Midlands, East of England, Yorkshire & Humber, and South West. Vulnerable groups include people aged 65+ and those with underlying health conditions. (The Guardian, The Telegraph)

Forecast Highlights

  • Monday: Low 30s°C in the south, 20s°C further north
  • Tuesday: Mid-30s°C possible in hottest areas
  • Wednesday: Warm conditions persist, especially in the south-east

Weekend temperatures will already climb into the mid-20s°C in central and southern England, and low-20s°C in Scotland. (Met Office)

What’s Driving the Heat?

The warm spell is linked to ex–Tropical Storm Dexter, which is drawing warm, tropical air into the UK. The Met Office says early August’s unsettled weather will give way to this hot period, particularly in southern England. (Yahoo News)

Public Health Advice

UKHSA recommends avoiding the sun between 11 am–3 pm, staying well-hydrated, wearing light clothing, and checking on vulnerable neighbours. Certain medications, such as some antidepressants and blood pressure drugs, can reduce heat tolerance. (The Sun)

Last summer saw over 1,300 heat-related deaths in the UK.
