Poland Reinstates Border Checks Amid Migration Concerns

Poland has reintroduced temporary border checks at crossings with Germany and Lithuania until 5 August, citing concerns over a sharp rise in irregular migration .

The government deployed military and police personnel at 52 border points with Germany and 13 with Lithuania, following similar moves by Germany earlier in the year. Prime Minister Donald Tusk defended the measures, saying they were necessary to prevent uncontrolled migration, while accusing Germany of pushing migrants across the border .

German officials responded critically, warning that the controls may damage Schengen zone principles and bilateral relations. Poland’s action reflects broader tensions in Europe over migration, with other EU nations weighing their own restrictions.
